The Company

Founded in 2012 by Bianca Villar, Fernando Fraiha, and Karen Castanho, Biônica Filmes has established itself as one of the leading production companies in the Brazilian film industry. With a diverse portfolio of 18 feature films and 4 series, Biônica focuses on works with both commercial potential and artistic value.

Recent highlights include Chuck Billy and the Marvelous Guava Tree (2025), which drew over 1 million moviegoers; The Best Mother In The World (2025), directed by Anna Muylaert—premiered at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) and already winner of 17 major awards; and the documentary Ritas (2025), which reached more than 40,000 viewers and became the most-watched Brazilian documentary in theaters in 2025.

In 2023, Biônica released Toll, directed by Carolina Markowicz, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and was selected for more than 70 film festivals, winning 29 awards, including Best Film at the Rome, Ostend, and Leeds festivals, as well as the Brazilian Academy Awards (Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro) for Best Fiction Feature, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Markowicz’s new film is set to premiere in 2026.

Over the past 12 years, Biônica Filmes productions have brought more than 8 million people to Brazilian theaters, topping the national box office in four different years with Men Are from Mars... And That's Where I'm Going! (2014), Monica and Friends: Bonds (2019) e Monica and Friends: Lessons (2021), and, in 2025, Chuck Billy and the Marvelous Guava Tree.

In 2025, the company is also releasing Daniel Rezende’s feature The Son of a Thousand Men, and the documentary Apolo, by Tainá Müller and Isis Broken. Currently in post-production are two projects in partnership with TV Quase: the series Choque de Cultura and the feature Passport to Poland, inspired by the series Falha de Cobertura.
