Founded in 2012 by Bianca Villar, Fernando Fraiha, and Karen Castanho, Biônica Filmes has established itself as a beacon of creativity in the world of Brazilian audiovisual storytelling. With a diverse portfolio that includes 21 films and 4 series, the company is dedicated to bringing compelling narratives to life.
Among its most recent achievements are the feature films Chuck Billy and the Marvelous Guava Tree (2025), which drew more than one million viewers to theaters, and The Best Mother in the World (2025), directed by Anna Muylaert. The latter had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2025, and won several major awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Performance at FICG (Guadalajara International Film Festival). The company also co-produced Gugu's World (2026), directed by Allan Deberton, which had its world premiere at this year’s Berlinale and received the Crystal Bear from the Generation Kplus Children’s Jury as well as the Generation Grand Prix from the International Jury. The film premiered at TIFF, where Markowicz was honored with the "Emerging Talent"award Toll was selected for more than 70 film festivals, collecting an impressive 25 additional awards, including Best Film at the Rome, Ostend, and Leeds festival, along with multiple honors at the Brazilian Academy Award for Best Fiction Feature, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, a FIPRESCI award and was the Brazilian entry for the Goya and Platino 2023
Over the past 12 years, Biônica Filmes has attracted over 7 million viewers to Brazilian cinemas, achieving the remarkable feat of reaching the top of national box offices three times.
